Tobii Eye Tracker 4C and Tobii Eye Tracker 5 both come with an integrated USB 2.0 cord which is 80cm long and placed on the right side of the tracker.
If your gaming computer is placed on the floor or is placed far away from your screen, the cable might not be long enough to reach your USB ports.
A 1m USB extension cable is included with the eye tracker. However, if connection issues occur when using the extension cable, or if the cable is still too short, using an externally powered USB hub is recommended. Both USB 2.0 and USB 3.x hubs work, as long as the hub is externally powered.
If you are buying a new hub, the D-Link DUB-1340 (4 port USB 3.0, 4 A) is an excellent choice because it provides plenty of power headroom during the eye tracker initialization.
Other tested hubs are:
- D-Link 7-Port USB 2.0 Hub (Powered) DUB-H7
- D-Link 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub (Powered) DUB-H4
In general, use USB hubs with an external power adapter rated at 5 V / 2.5 A DC (or higher). This ensures the eye tracker receives enough power during startup.
Don't want to use a hub?
If a USB hub is not preferred, and the included extension cable is too short, an active USB extension cable can be tried instead.
Active extension cables amplify the signal, but Tobii has not tested specific models. Because of this, compatibility and performance cannot be guaranteed.
