Tobii’s head and eye tracking is now seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Since Sim Update 3 (SU3), you can access Tobii settings directly within the simulator. No need for third-party plugins or wondering whether your gaze or head movement is being ignored. Your cockpit view now responds naturally to your eyes and head, like a loyal co-pilot.
But before you take off, let’s fine-tune your Tobii settings to ensure a smooth and immersive flight experience.
Best Tobii Settings for MSFS2024 🏆
⚙️ Change the settings in MSFS2024 (Sim Update 3 release):
- Go to Settings.
- Select Controls.
- Click the cogwheel icon next to Tobii.
- Open Hardware Settings.
- Enter the following settings values:
🚧 Known issues
We are currently investigating several issues affecting the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 when used with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS2024).
Depending on whether you're using Sim Update 3 (SU3) or participating in the SU4 beta, you may encounter one or more of the following issues:
- No settings found: In the SU4 beta release, Hardware settings show an empty settings table.
- No Camera Boost available: Camera Boost cannot be added directly through the standard settings interface. To enable Camera Boost in your play, please follow Workaround Solution 2 described below. This issue affects all SU releases.
- No tracking and incorrect default settings: In the SU3 release, the default settings may disable normal eye and head tracking. This can result in no response or slow movement in Extended View. To resolve this issue, update the settings as described above.
- Compatibility issues with Opentrack or TrackIR: If Opentrack or TrackIR is installed, the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 does not function correctly. Uninstalling these programs allows the Tobii Eye Tracker to work, but only responds to eye movement with very slow tracking. This issue affects all SU releases.
🔩Previous workarounds
A big shout-out 📢 to awesome users like Jonathan Beckett and SizzlingPopcorn! They've created some fantastic workarounds and instructional videos. We're incredibly grateful for their efforts and support.🫶
While we were waiting for the SU3 release by the MSFS2024 team, we've come up with two workarounds that also allow you to fine-tune your eye and head tracking experience.
👨✈️Pro tip
For the smoothest experience, we highly recommend using the SU3 release. SU3 is more intuitive, faster to set up, and doesn’t require any third-party apps to get started. Just update your settings as described above and you’re good to go! 🛫
Solution 1 (SU1, SU2 and SU4): Tobii Game Hub, no Opentrack required
This workaround is compatible with both the Steam version and the Microsoft Store/PC Game Pass version of the game.
Requirements:
- Ensure you are running Tobii Game Hub 4.2.0 or newer.
- Make sure Opentrack is uninstalled or disabled. There are two methods to disable Opentrack:
- Uninstall Opentrack and remove the registry key for NaturalPoint.
- Rename NPClient64.dll in the Opentrack/modules directory.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 must be installed.
Let’s start implementing it:
- Download and install Tobii Game Hub 4.2.0: (link)
- Disable or uninstall Opentrack, if installed.
- Launch Tobii Game Hub and select the Games tab.
- Select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 from the Installed Game list on the left or select the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 cover image in the library. This opens the Tobii Game Hub page for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. On this page, you'll see two sections: About this game and Settings.
- Select Settings to expand this section. On the top-right, you'll see the profile selection box with an icon of a person, profile name, a dropdown arrow, and a refresh button.
- By default, you'll see the profile named Tobii, followed by either Steam or PC Game Pass in green, depending on your game version.
- If you've created multiple profiles for your Tobii device, they'll appear here. Select the dropdown arrow to view all available profiles.
- You can also create new profiles and click the refresh button to load them into Tobii Game Hub.
- Select the profile you want to adjust from the list of available profiles.
- Select the Reset to default button, at the bottom of this section, to reset all settings to their default values.
ℹ️ Tobii Game Hub default settings are a good starting point. - Under Settings, you'll see six sliders and one toggle button. Drag the sliders to adjust the settings and select the toggle button to turn on or off Head auto center.
💡You can also select the box with the numerical value, select the number, and replace it with a specific value. Apply the new value by clicking outside the box or pressing the Return or Enter key on your keyboard. - Select Save to save the new settings to the profile or Cancel to not save the changes.
- For the Steam version, restart the flight for changes to apply.
- For the Microsoft Store/PC Game Pass version, restart the game, except for changes to the default Tobii profile, where a flight restart is sufficient.
And that’s it! You're now ready to enjoy your immersive flight experience within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Known issue with this solution:
Tobii Game Hub doesn’t detect the game or load profiles for some Game Pass/Microsoft Store users. This issue arises when Tobii Game Hub does not find the install location. Currently, you can't manually select the correct folder due to folder protection. We're aware of this issue and are working on a fix.
ℹ️ This issue should be fixed in version 4.2.1 now available for download!
If you haven't updated Tobii Game Hub to the latest version and are still experiencing this issue, one solution is to make a new profile for your Tobii device in the game. New profiles are stored in a different location, than the default install path.
Follow these steps:
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
- Create a new profile for the Tobii device in the game.
- Launch Tobii Game Hub and select the Games tab.
- Select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 from the Installed Game list on the left or select the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 cover image in the library.
- Select Settings to expand this section. On the top-right, you'll see the profile selection box with an icon of a person, profile name, a dropdown arrow, and a refresh button. Select Refresh.
- Select the dropdown arrow to view all available profiles and whether the newly created profile appears. If it does the Solution 1 workaround should work as intended. 🛫
Solution 2 (add Camera Boost): Tobii Game Hub and Opentrack needed
There is an earlier workaround that also provides a good experience, including the use of Camera Boost. However, it is less user-friendly than the one described above as you need to use Opentrack.
Follow these steps if you want to try it out:
- Download and install Tobii Game Hub: (link).
- Download and install Opentrack: (link).
- Launch Opentrack and use the following settings:
-
Input: UDP over network
⚠️ Don’t select Tobii Eye Tracker! This will disable Tobii Game Hub, causing your settings to have no effect in the game. - Output: freetrack 2.0 Enhanced
- Select Start to begin tracking.
-
Input: UDP over network
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and it should work as expected with the Tobii Eye Tracker 5.
- Adjust settings in Tobii Game Hub:
- Launch Tobii Game Hub, go to Games, and select Opentrack (pink octopus icon).
- Adjust the settings as needed or leave them at default.
ℹ️ In Tobii Game Hub, we suggest assigning a hotkey for reset head tracking to quickly reposition your view during gameplay.
💡Useful tips
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, two useful settings that you can find under Settings > Controls > Devices list > Keyboard are:
- Toggle Head Tracking (ALT + 7)
- Reset Eye Tracking (ALT + 8)
